SWAG 2015

As the fight for a new stadium enters into a new era a fresh new look for the SWAG website is introduced. Over time the previous links and pages will be will be added to the site, but for now you can still catch up with all the latest news and announcements here.

About Us

SWAG was formed after a meeting was held late 2004 between Diane Rogerson (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats) CEO, and three supporters, David Jennison, Stephen Astill and Philip Townend, who were acting on behalf of the 1000+members of the “Wakefield Trinity Wildcats” internet forum, who had for some time debated the problems involving Belle Vue.

The club explained the problems it faced, and said it would be happy to receive support and help from a supporters organisation in it’s attempt to improve the situation. It was however agreed that although the club supported the aims of SWAG, it would and could not be involved in the running of the organisation, but would be happy to help when and where it could, thus SWAG is a fully independent group and is open to all, not just supporters of “Wakefield Trinity Wildcats”.

Press Release: Time For Action On The Wakefield Wildcat Stadium

Conservative Parliamentary Candidates Andrea Jenkyns (Morley & Outwood) and Antony Calvert (Wakefield) are issuing the following joint statement.

"After several meetings with the club and supporters, we are very concerned about the current situation regarding Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and the proposed relocation of the club to Newmarket. We both believe that the leadership of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council is demonstrating a shocking lack of political will and that real change is needed in Wakefield.

Both of us are united in our desire to see the development of this new community stadium. We believe that not only do the fans deserve this, but it will result in a large number of jobs and significant investment in our area. We are very disappointed that the Labour Councillors and MPs have once again demonstrated a total lack of commitment towards Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Fans of the club have been subject to broken promise after broken promise by Labour and it is time for action.  We are both absolutely committed to getting this community stadium off the ground and today pledge to work immediately after the General Election with the Secretary of State and the club and Supporters Trust to ensure Wakefield Council honour its planning obligations towards Newmarket.

Put simply, this last week before the General Election gives us a real chance to secure a long term future for the Wildcats.

Michael Carter, Chairman of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats is supporting this campaign and said:

"We have had very little backing from any of the local councillors or MP's in our #fightfornewmarket. This is a golden opportunity to provide a real asset for the COMMUNITY. " We believe that Andrea and Antony have a real understanding and passion of what Wakefield Trinity means to the culture, history and heritage of this great city. We feel we have a much better chance of achieving our aims with them fighting for us locally and at Westminster."

Phil Townsend, Chairman of Stadium Wakefield Action Group echoed this sentiment and stated;

"After several meetings with Andrea and Antony I firmly believe they are genuine in supporting our campaign right through to the highest level to give us the best chance to get the result we need!".

After months of apparent inactivity, SWAG, in association with the Wakefield and District Community Trust, held a public meeting last night to provide an update on the status of a new community stadium for Wakefield.

Although outline permission for the development was granted over two years ago by the SOS, the actual construction of the stadium has stalled leading to a lengthy period of negotiations with all the interested parties. Now that the talks have hit a stalemate, SWAG and the WDCT have chosen to bring the details of the subject into the public domain.
